Chişinău International Airport - All Information on Chişinău International Airport (KIV)

Chişinău International Airport, known by its airport code of KIV, is the primary international airport serving Moldova. It is situated 13 kilometers southeast of the center of Chişinău, the country's capital city.

Air Moldova, the national airline of Moldova, calls this facility its home base and headquarters. Kishinev, the city's Russian and former English name, is where the airport code KIV comes from.

In 2009, the airport had ten check-in offices and five gates to accommodate passengers. At the VIP terminal, both VIP and CIP passengers can use the exceptional amenities provided.

In December 2006, a visitor's patio on the second floor was inaugurated.

In the past, passengers had to provide their passports, ticket, and registration.

Late in 2006, passengers were allowed in the check-in hall, and the airport was reorganized simultaneously to accommodate the introduction of electronic tickets and the elimination of the requirement that foreigners register.

Because of this, the check-in area was significantly more extensive, and the customs control area was moved to come after check-in.

In 2017, it was revealed that there would be proposals for a second runway. This new runway would replace the current taxiway just north of the existing runway. The construction of the building started at the beginning of 2017, and operations commenced on September 13, 2018.

After being closed on February 24, 2022, due to mounting fears brought on by the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the airspace of Moldova was partially restored on March 22, 2022, by the Civil Aviation Authority of Moldova.

The airspace had been closed on February 24. Since then, the Chişinău Airport has returned to its regularly scheduled operations. At Chişinău International Airport, the following airlines provide regularly scheduled flights in addition to charter flights:

Multiple buses and trolley bus lines leave the airport regularly. The Botanica neighborhood is served by the Rutiera line 165, which carries on to the downtown area after passing past it.

The stop known as "Piaţa D. Cantemir" is where the "AEROGARA" bus departs from. It provides stops at various points along Stefan Cel Mare street in the central business district. It also stops at the 'GARA' bus station within the main train station.

Beginning in June 2017, a trolley bus with route 30 operates every 20 minutes. As of September 2022, the price of a single-ride ticket is 6 MDL, equivalent to 0.31 EUR.

History of Chisinau International Airport

On June 24, 1926, the first regularly scheduled flights between Bucharest and Chişinău took off on the route connecting Bucharest, Galaţi, Chişinău, and Iași.

Initially, CFRNA and then LARES were in charge of operating the flights. At the airport, a memorial plaque included details about the initial trip to Chişinău.

In the 1970s, the primary terminal was constructed, and it can accommodate 1,200,000 passengers annually. It was upgraded to its current state in 2002 as a result of the efforts of the Turkish corporation Akfen Holding.

In addition to renovating the older terminal building, which was 7,600 square meters in size, a new annex terminal building with an area of 4,270 square meters was constructed.

The project included the construction of 12,185 square meters of asphalt road, a treatment complete mechanical heating, ventilation, and electrical systems, X-ray security, luggage handling, master clock, and flight information systems.

The curtain walls measured 3,000 square meters, the composite panels measured 3,200 square meters, and the total surface area of the asphalt road was 12,185 square meters.

Airports Council International is represented by Chişinău International Airport, an organization member. As a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the airspace over Moldova was shut down, resulting in the airport's temporary closure. The establishment reopened in May of 2022.

About Chisinau, Moldova

The Republic of Moldova's Chişinău serves as the nation's capital and its largest city. The city is the most important industrial and commercial center in Moldova. It is situated on the Bac River, a tributary of the Dniester River.

The capital city of Chisinau is also the country's most important transportation center and the location of the country's most prosperous economy. The metropolitan area is home to nearly one-third of Moldova's total population. Approximately 494,425 people are living in the city proper at the time of the 2021 census.

In 1919, the city was home to fourteen manufacturing establishments. Chişinău serves as the nation of Moldova's financial and commercial capital. Its GDP accounts for around sixty percent of the national economy's total value reached in 2012, which was four billion dollars worth of lei. As a result, Chişinău had a GDP per capita of 227% more than the average for Moldova.

Chişinău is home to several associated businesses, including some of the country's most successful television networks, radio stations, and newspapers. Chişinău serves as the headquarters of all national and international banks.

The cinema Patria, the new malls Moldova and Megapolis Mall, and well-known retailers like N1, Fidesco, Green Hills, Fourchette, and Metro are notable locations in and near Chişinău. The inhabitants tend to shop at Elat, an older mall in Botanica, and Sun City in the middle of the city.

There are several amusement parks located in and around the city. One from the Soviet era can be found in the Botanica district. It is situated along the three lakes of a vast garden extending to the city center's edge.

Another park, the contemporary Aventura Park, may be found some distance from the city center. As a result of a rehabilitation project that received insufficient funding, a circus that used to be housed in a magnificent edifice in the Raşcani sector has been dormant for several years.

Weather in Chisinau, Moldova

The winters in Chisinau are cold, snowy, and windy; the summers are warm and partly cloudy all year long. The city is located in Moldova. The temperature rarely drops below 9 degrees or climbs over 92 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. Still, it regularly ranges from 24 degrees to 83 degrees.

From the end of May through about the middle of September is the time of year ideal for traveling to Chisinau for outdoor activities requiring mild weather.

The warm season begins on May 22 and continues until September 11, with an average daily high temperature above 73 degrees Fahrenheit. July is the warmest month in Chisinau, with an average high temperature of 81 degrees and a low temperature of 63 degrees Fahrenheit.

The cold season begins on November 21 and continues until March 8. The average daily maximum temperature is below 43 degrees. January is the coldest average temperature in Chisinau, with lows of 24 degrees Fahrenheit and highs of 34 degrees Fahrenheit on average.

Rainy days in Chisinau fluctuate throughout the year. There is a larger than 18% probability of precipitation falling on any given day during the wetter season, which begins on April 6 and continues until July 28.

June is the month that typically sees the most precipitation in Chisinau, with an average of 7.5 days receiving at least 0.04 inches of rainfall throughout the month.

The drier season begins on July 28 and continues for 8.3 months, ending on April 6. January is the month in Chisinau that receives the least rainfall, with just 3.6 days of precipitation.

When referring to days with precipitation, we differentiate between those that just have rain, those that only have snow, and those with rain and snow. According to this classification, the type of precipitation that falls most frequently in Chisinau varies throughout the year.

Rain is the only type of precipitation expected for the next 11 months, beginning on January 24 and ending on December 28. June is the month that, on average, Chisinau experiences 7.5 days of rain alone, making it the wettest month.

Between December 28 and January 24, snow, the only precipitation type with the highest frequency, is 3.9 weeks. January is when Chisinau experiences an average of 1.6 days covered in snow, making it the snowiest month.

The dew point is what we use as a benchmark for the humidity comfort level since it indicates whether or not perspiration will evaporate from the skin, which in turn cools the body. Lower dew points feel dryer, whereas higher dew points feel more humid.

Even though the temperature may drop at night, a humid day is generally followed by a muggy night because the dew point tends to vary more slowly than the temperature does. It means that even if the temperature may drop at night, a muggy day is typically followed by a muggy night.

Chisinau's humidity level, as assessed by the percentage of time it's muggy, oppressive, or terrible, remains between 4% and 4% year-round. This means the humidity is the same.
